after our four days in the jungle, we still had a few days in manaus (city in the middle of amazonas) before flying back to the east coast to pick up our car. the first day back from the jungle we spent completely inside our hotel room, basking in the air conditioning, napping, catching up on the internets. i think we may have left once for dinner. the night before leaving manaus we took in a jazz show at the manaus opera house. i was turned away the first time for inappropriate dress (shorts? in the amazon?!) and changed into my dirt-stained baggy india pants that look like pajamas. and they let me in. anyway, the opera house was very pretty, and the jazz band was decent.
