right next door to personal hell in the amazon

we survived four days in the amazon. well, *i* survived. michael enjoyed. i think tanmoy did too. after eating a vegetarian dinner of crackers and sleeping out in the jungle we were taken on a humid, sweaty, spider- and mosquito-infused jungle walk the next morning, and i wondered if it could get worse. then i imagined some poisonous amazonian monster biting michael, and decided that would certainly be my personal hell. nothing bit michael fatally (mosquitoes are another story altogether) so i decided walking through the amazon was right next door to personal hell. (thanks guns n roses for the inspirational phrase) actually, we really didn't see many amazonian creatures at all, except mosquitoes. it wasn't that arduous of a tour really, mostly it involved lounging around and swatting at mosquitoes. each night we did hear (not see) some really fantastic howler monkeys. they're spooky and serene. anyway, here's a massive photo set of our amazon trip:
