10jan13: I'm sorry, I was holding out. I just found this draft post in our blog, unpublished, of our last week in South America. That's Huacachina in the last few pictures: a sand dune & lagoon resort town allegedly once for the Peruvian elite, and it's now overrun with westerners, bad internet connections, mediocre food menus, and a grand ole lazy place for a weary traveler to camp out for a few days. Michael dragged me to the top of the sand dune - a two-hour crawl with much protesting & bitching - and it took us less than a minute to run down it, in 20-foot nearly vertical leaps.
We bought a royal blue 1968 VW Bug in Lima, Peru, and we are driving it around the continent in an overly-ambitious and largely-unplanned circle.
